What a great book. I wish my children were of the appropriate age for this, though I was thinking how much fun it might be to have some high school students complete an activity book like this and then share the results with the younger elementary students.
This is, as I say, an activity book, or a “Draw and Write Journal” as the subtitle suggests. Author/illustrator Becky J. Radtke has put together a really delightful package of journal prompts for the elementary school aged youngster. From the pretty standard “Family Tree” to the “What I Usually Eat for Lunch” and “Ice Cream Inventor” pages. The drawings are simple and bold with plenty of room for the budding journalist’s additions.
In addition to keeping track of a youngster’s interests, passions, and day-to-day life, which is always a treat to look back upon, this book helps to build interest in maintaining a journal. Getting children (anyone really) used to maintaining a journal is a great idea and hopefully one that they will carry on as they get older.
I highly recommend this book for anyone with young children. I’ll be buying a few copies to give to relatives.
